Who or What Is eBay?
You have more than likely heard the name
unless you live in a cave. However not every one knows who they are or
what they do. You read an add for making money at home and eBay comes
up, so what are you getting into. Well eBay is a action web site do not
let that scare you, founded in San Jose, California by a computer
programmer by the name of Pierre Omidyar, on September 3,1997, and he
is now the Chairman. At the time of its founding the online auction web
site was called Auction Web. The company officially change its name to
eBay in September of 1997.The CEO and President of eBay is Meg
Whitman, John Donahoe is Chief of eBay Marketplace. There are other
important people in this company but I will not cover them here.
eBay
now sells millions in collectibles, computers, furniture, house wares,
equipment, appliances, vehicles, boats, and other miscellaneous items,
virtually you name it, it is sold. There are what seems to be almost
endless lists of items, bought, and sold daily on eBay. Some
items
that you might want to sell on eBay are collectibles, they can be new
to rare, cheap to and very valuable. Do not pass up the opportunity to
sell items that you find cheap at garage sales, and yard sale. In your
home, in your garage, and do not forget the attic, or for that matter
that friend who has who knows what and wants to get rid of it. A little
soap and water, polish, or a paint job just might be be the answer to
putting extra money in your pocket Be careful if you do not know how to
clean it or if it is really old you may hurt the value so sell it as
is. Do not for get dolls, cars, or old cloths you can be surprised at
what people want, and will buy. If you have an original pair of Levis
you have big big big money. After all there was the person who
bought a potatoes chip in the form of a boot for a hefty price. There
are eager buyers world wide on eBay so let your imagination go. There
are companies that supply items you can offer on eBay. Some of them are
SMC, You are
allowed to sell anything as long as it is not illegal or does not
violate the eBay Prohibited and Restricted Items policy. You can also sell services and intangible on eBay. eBay
launched its Business & Industrial category in 2004. This gives you
as a seller the opportunity to sell to the industrial market. Some very
large companies sell on eBay so do not underestimate this market.
eBay
generates revenue from a number of fees. The eBay fee system is quite
complex; there are fees to list a product and fees when the product
sells, plus several optional fees, all based on various factors and
scales. In the long run it is worth the effort and it really does not
cost you that much. They get their money selling in shear volume.
eBay now owns the PayPal payment system which has fees of its own but
provides you with a secure transaction system. Under
the current U.S. tax laws, a state cannot require sellers located
outside the state to collect a sales tax, making deals more attractive
to your buyers. Be sure you consult a Tax accountant or your State tax office
for your states current tax laws. eBay's current business
strategy as of this writing in January 2007 includes increasing revenue
by increasing international trade within the eBay system. eBay has
already expanded to almost two dozen countries including China and
India. The only places where expansion failed were Taiwan, Japan, and
Hong Kong where Yahoo! had a head start, do not underestimate them.

So the World Wide Market is pretty much at your disposal, and it is
growing daily as more and more people use the Internet. eBay
has designed Turbo Lister 2 a software tool designed to streamline the
process of creating large numbers of listings so if this is what you
want to do it is available. It is provided as a free download for eBay
users.
The advantage of eBay is it is a very proven system, and
you need not be present to make money. You can start out part time, and
stay that way or work your way up to full time, or you can just go for
it. Now for the big question how do you get started. Well you can
start this home based business on your own by trial and error, or
you can get the help from companies that have proven their abilities to
show you how to do it, and speed up the process, as well as avoid
the pitfall. For many people using a
company that shows you how is the
most cost effective way to go. You can get items to sell from
companies like
SMC, or
drop shipping companies like World Wide Brands.
